A Trip to Russia - St. Petersburg - Church of Our Savior on the Spilled Blood - Spring

The Church of Our Savior on the Spilled Blood was constructed by Alexander III between 1883 and 1907 on the spot where Emperor Alexander II was assassinated by bomb throwing terrorists on March 13, 1881. The interior of the church is filled with mosaics executed by Vasnetsov, Nesterov and Vrubel - the foremost mosaic artists of their day. Closed during the Soviet era it was re-opened in 1997.
