A Trip to Russia - St. Petersburg - Imperial Porcelain Factory - Spring

The Imperial Porcelain Factory was founded in 1744 by Empress Elizabeth. In Elizabeth's time it's production was reserved for the ruling Romanov family. A century after it's founding it was given the name of the Imperial Porcelain Factory and it began selling to the world. In 1917 the name was changed again - this time to the State Porcelain Factory - and it turned its talents to the support of the new regime. In 1925 it's name was changed to the Leningrad Lomonosov Porcelain Factory. It was privatized in 1993. Today it once again calls itself the Imperial Porcelain Factory. The factory store is open for business and a part of the company's priceless museum collection of porcelain is on public view. The most famous pattern available for purchase is one made for Catherine the Great - the intersecting lines of cobalt blue with gold accents on a white background.
