As one might expect there is a plenitude of opportunity to purchase souvenirs of one's trip to Russia. High traffic tourist locations usually have an assortment of items assembled either in stalls outside the front gate or small shops inside the attraction itself. One must be careful of purchasing antiques or even items that look like antiques. The Russian government is intent on protecting the national heritage and, at the very least, proper documentation must be obtained before such items can clear customs on the way out of the country.
