A Trip to Russia - A Walking Street in Moscow - Spring

We saw what looked like two kinds of graffiti in Russia during this trip. In one large town we saw one example of what looked like it might be counter-culture graffiti executed by a rebellious individual with a spray can. In several other large urban areas we saw a very few examples of what appeared to be permitted graffiti. We can't be sure, of course, but it appeared to be an attempt to do the modern thing. In each case it was confined to a specific space in a relatively upscale economic area. English language was a part of all graffito that we saw. We saw no tagging outside of the acceptable areas and no graffiti of any kind in any of the smaller communities that we visited. Like Coca Cola, McDonald's, Levi pants, and T-shirts, it would appear that graffiti is regarded as one of America's contributions to world culture.
