In old Russian "red" is a synonym for "beautiful." Red Square is the central square in Moscow and, for many, the center of Russia. It separates the Kremlin from the traditional merchant quarter of the city (now occupied in part by the GUM Department Store). UNESCO has listed Red Square in it's list of World Heritage Sites. |
