Fast food came to Russia right after Perestroika. McDonalds first restaurant, opened in 1990 and served 30,000 meals the first day that it was in business. Today there are well over one hundred McDonald restaurants employing more than 17,000 people in cities all across the country. In 2004 the firm claimed to have served over one billion meals since opening. We passed up the opportunity to join the queue.
