A Trip to Australia and New Zealand
Sydney - Manly Beach

Manly Wharf

Ferry Passengers Disembarking

Manly is to the North Head pretty much what Watsons Bay is to the South Head. It too is a narrow band of land between Sydney Harbor and the open ocean. We arrived at Manly Wharf by ferry and walked the Corso pedestrian plaza from the wharf to Steyne beach then walked along the waterfront to Shelly Beach.

Downtown Manly

Captain Arthur Phillip named Manly after encountering some indigenous people who he felt were very manly in appearance. We know that these people were of the Kay-ye-my clan, but unfortunately we don't know what they thought of Captain Phillip.

Downtown Manly

Manly is one of the most famous of all of the Australian beaches - in many people's minds second only to Bondi Beach. Then there are some hard nosed surfers who would violently dispute that claim. On a good surf day they will put the long right breaking waves at Manly's Fairy Bower up against any in the Sydney area.
