The very small town of Mountainair is located at the junction of New Mexico Highway 55 and U.S. Highway 60 in central New Mexico. It was founded in 1903 as a market town serving local farms and ranches. It was named for the pleasant breezes off of the nearby Manzano Mountains. The Visitor's Center for the Salinas Pueblo Missions National Monument is located in Mountainair.
