Gallup - County Seat

Gallup is located on Interstate Highway 40 in northwestern New Mexico. It was founded in 1891 as a railhead for the Atlantic and Pacific Railroad and was named after David Gallup, a paymaster for the railroad. Route 66 runs through it and it is known as the "Indian Capital of the World" because of the important presence of Navajo, Hopi, and Zuni Indians in the near vicinity.
