Valley of Fires Recreation Area - Winter

The Valley of Fires Recreation Area is located just outside of Carrizozo, New Mexico, on U.S. Highway 380. It is a massive four to six mile wide lava flow that stretches 44 miles and is up to 160 feet thick in places. It is thought to be one of the youngest such lava flows in the continental United States.
