Aztec National Monument - Summer - Early Morning

Aztec National Monument is located on the Animas River just outside of the town of Aztec in northwestern New Mexico. Although Ancestral Puebloan People had lived and farmed in the area for centuries this site was planned and built late in the tenth century A.D. and occupied off and on until the end of the 12th century. Scholars are uncertain if it was an ancillary community of the Chaco culture or a center in its own right. The largest reconstructed great kiva in the Southwest is located there. Aztec National Monument is definitely worth a visit.
