Buena Vista

Buena Vista, Colorado, is located on U.S. Highway 24 in the middle of the state. Native Americans have lived in the region for thousands of years. In 1779 Captain Juan Bautista de Anza passed through on a campaign against Comanche Indians led by Cuerno Verde. Mountain man James Purcell was here as early as 1802 and Captain Zebulon Pike was in the area in 1806. Gold was discovered nearby in 1860 and the Denver & Rio Grande Railroad laid tracks through town in 1880. Today it is a quiet town catering to retired people and tourists.
