A Trip to Russia - St. Petersburg - Peterhof Palace - Spring |

The decoration in all of the palaces that we visited during this trip included numerous young ladies in various states of dishabille and the gardens usually had a few tasteful nudes. I did not try to keep count, but my guess is that Peterhof has a bit more of this sort of thing than the others that we visited. I note too that the paneling in Peter's very masculine Maritime Study includes a satyr. Although one can not be certain it would appear that he was a man aware of his appetites. It is tragic that he felt compelled to have his beautiful mistress Anna Mons executed for adultery. |
