All of the palaces that we visited had statuary of both men and women, but none had any more handsome male sculpture than did this palace of the two Catherine's and an Elizabeth. Most royalty during this period in Russia and elsewhere in Europe was rather promiscuous and it is titillating to consider the amorous adventures of the great men and women of the era. After his various experiences in Paris about this same time, our own Benjamin Franklin would agree. |
